A single voice is the easiest input to track
The detector follows one dominant pitch at a time, which is exactly what a hummed or sung melody gives it. One voice, one microphone, and as little accompaniment as possible produce the fewest false notes.
Sing or hum with steady timing and without heavy vibrato, reverb, or a backing track. Dry and close to the microphone beats loud and processed here.

What a voice draft keeps and what it loses
Pitch and timing estimates survive the conversion; breath, vibrato, tone, lyrics, and expression do not, because MIDI stores note instructions rather than audio. Expect a clean skeleton of the melody, not a copy of the performance.
Harmonies and stacked vocals are outside a monophonic detector. Convert the top line, add the rest in a DAW, and keep the original recording as the reference.
Clean up the notes before you commit them
Quantize when the phrase should sit on a grid, transpose when the destination instrument needs another key, and adjust velocity when the detected attacks are uneven.
