Piano roll video

MIDI to video

Record a scrolling piano-roll clip from the MIDI already open in your browser. Choose a vertical, square, or widescreen frame, add a background image, and optionally include a simple preview tone.

Stay on-device. Start empty if you have no file, or try a public demo.

Off-grid notes, wild velocities, leftover gaps — the dirty AI-song export producers actually get.

A clean four-bar piano phrase you can transpose, quantize, or reshape immediately.

Drums, bass, and chords on separate tracks for mute, solo, and merge practice.

The same hook after quantize and velocity cleanup — the after shot for the messy export.

Your file stays on this device unless you explicitly use Creator Cloud. After an edit, one local recovery copy is saved in this browser until you replace or clear it.

What the video export records

EditMIDI draws the notes on a canvas and records that canvas with the browser MediaRecorder API. The playhead stays near the center while notes scroll toward it, so short and long clips remain readable. The output is a real video file, not an animated GIF.

The default frame is 16:9 for YouTube. The vertical frame is built for Shorts, Reels, and TikTok, and the square frame fits a feed post. The clip length can be 10, 20, or 30 seconds, capped by the song length.

Background image and preview tone

You can add a local image as the backdrop. It is drawn behind the piano roll with a dark overlay for legibility, and it never leaves the browser. A title and subtitle are drawn into the frame, so the clip is ready to post without another design pass.

The optional tone is a simple synthesized preview, not the bundled SoundFont. It is useful for checking sync and giving a silent clip a reference melody. For a finished soundtrack, render WAV or MP3 separately and combine the audio and video in an editor.

Recording in real time

Canvas recording happens in real time: a 20-second clip takes about 20 seconds to record. Keep the tab visible and avoid switching away while the recorder is active. The progress bar shows how much of the clip has been captured.

The browser decides whether the file is MP4 or WebM based on codec support. Chrome and Edge commonly produce WebM; Safari may produce MP4. Both are accepted by major social platforms, and the status message names the format that was downloaded.

What it is not

This is a piano-roll visualizer, not a full video editor. It does not add captions, transitions, multiple scenes, or a produced soundtrack. It also cannot record longer than 60 seconds or continue recording when the browser throttles a background tab.

The video is generated from MIDI note positions, so controllers, pitch bend, program changes, and the SoundFont timbre are not visualized or rendered. Use it as a clear, honest view of the notes and timing, then finish the post in the editor you already use.
